Definition

Harmonised standard

A European standard adopted on Commission request and cited in the Official Journal; full application gives a presumption of conformity.

A European standard developed by CEN, CENELEC or ETSI following a Commission standardisation request and whose reference is published in the Official Journal. Products in conformity with harmonised standards (or common specifications) are presumed to conform with the essential requirements they cover. For Class I important products, applying them in full is what keeps self-assessment available. The CRA standards are being developed under standardisation request M/606.
